Ang mga doktora (part 2)

Myth 2: dalawa-singko ang kotse sa Amerika

Again, whether we admit it or not, kasama sa pangarap natin ang sasakyan…a sleek, fast, red sportscar, a monster truck, a serviceable van, o mapormang pick-up o SUV. At akala natin, pagdating natin sa land of milk, honey and beautiful cars, magmamaneho tayo agad ng mga ganito. Wrong again.

Which, in truth, is only in your dreams.

Don’t even dare…well, at least not when you’re in California…where a 15 minute drive eh mula sa Manila hanggang Tagaytay na. The West Coast is known as the mecca of the freeways with a general speed limit of 60-70 mph.

Converted to kilometers per hour it’s more or less 110 pero take note, walang trapik at walang stop lights.

Uulitin ko, they cannot work legitimately in any US hospital or any medical establishment. No permit to work at hindi lang ‘yon, they have to pass a certain qualifying exam….or exams.

Dalawang bus ang dapat niyang sakyan (meaning she had to transfer to another bus) at every hour lang dumadaan sa bus stop.

But with a big difference, guys, walang trapik ito.

Ok ba? The bus driver god waits for no one hehe.

Pauwi naman ay reverse lang ng route mo papunta, therefore, out of the opis ka ng 5 pm, darating ka sa bahay mo ng 7:30 pm. Not a minute more, not a minute less. Eksakto ang mga bus doon, to the minute. You have to run, lowly worker, run for the bus!! harhar

But if she had a car, 20 minutes lang ‘yon to and from work.

One upside of her story?

alam mo ella, i am grateful for this country that i consider my home now…it gave me the courage and strength I didn’t know I have..i was crying during my first weeks here…i thought to myself..i am a nurse in the Phil…has been working there for almost 4 years then i came here to wipe a_s( i started in nursing home)..typical story..but everything went well after that..I was able to help my parents to send my 3 siblings to college.. living the american dream…i don’t have regrets coming here despite the struggles…i have friends who are asking me if they should accept job offers here …i always tell them that if they have a stable job that pays well there…they don’t have to leave the country…makuntento na diyan because no amount of money can compensate for the kind of lifestyle we have there..leaving family, friends, culture, etc. is hard..but to each his own ika nga..kung ako din lang…if I have a good paying job there..i’d stay..but then, as you’ve pictured it..it’s hard to realize the way of living in US until you lived it yourself…(sorry for the ramblings )

yung mga may magagandang buhay at trabaho sa pinas, they better stay lalo na yung mga pinsipe at prinsesa na ipinanganak na may kakambal na driver at maid. it will be very very hard for them to adjust. but for those not so well off and doesn’t have a well paying job (kahit na anong profession pa yan) na kailangang bumuhay ng pamilya….go, go, go….go for gold!!! kaya lang ang ating bida (si doktora) is doing it for “love”. naku doktora sana naman the guy is worth all your sacrifices. good luck!
